Embedded Bits of Glam (work in progress)
Embedded Bits of Glam is a series of concrete cast sculptures made out of mass produced table decorations and cutlery. These decorations try to mimic the aesthetics of a high social class dining hall. They create the illusion of finesse and sublime beauty, albeit one that is sold cheaply.
These sculptures dance on the border of beauty and kitsch, and their relation to consumer culture and instant mass produced products.
The objects are embedded in concrete, a strong material which remains stable for many years. The concrete stands in contrast to these everyday objects which are unimportant and will be discarded after short use. The embedding creates fossils that perpetuate these short-lived objects and transforms them into timeless valuable pieces.
Embedded Bits of Glam היא סדרת יצקות בטון שעשויה מקישוטי שולחן וכלי אוכל שיצרו ביצור המוני. חפצים אלה אמורים לחקות אסתיטקה
שמייצגת סטטוס חברתי גבוהה המייצרת אשליה של אנינות טעם ושל יופי נעלה אך כזה הנמכר בזול.
סדרת פסלים זו משחקת על הגבול בין יופי לקיטש ולקשר שלהם לתרבות הצריכה שמיצרת מוצרי אינסטנט.
החפצים מוטבעים בבטון שהוא חומר חזק שנשאר יציב במשך שנים רבות ועומד בניגוד לחפצים יומיומים אלה שהינם חסרי חשיבות ועתידים להזירק לאחר שימוש קצר. ההטבעות יוצרת מאובנים המנציחים חפצים קצרי מועד והופכות אותם לעל-זמניים ויקרי ערך.
